The Xfinity Comcast Innovation team in Sunnyvale hired me on a contract through Yoh to collaborate with Samsung to develop an Android based remote control for Smart TVs.
Our team worked in a fast paced agile environment to create a fully functional prototype called the Samsung PX that integrated with the Xfinity X1 and is currently called Xfinity Stream.
The current Xfinity X1 flows needed to be re-imagined for Android on a custom Samsung device.
The Scenerio: A classic remote control vs. a touch screen device. A collaboration was formed between the Engineering, Product Design and Industrial Design Teams as we prototyped a custom touch screen and app to simplify the physical button design into a modern digital touch based remote. The goal was to improve the vast cable viewing experience using graphics instead of a numeric keyboard to control the Ultra High Resolution Samsung TVs that debuted at CES.
Samsung and Comcast collaborated in creating an Android based remote control for large format TV screens.
The “super-remote” was full-featured and was the catalyst to allow apps instead of buttons to control the TV experience. The Samsung PX prototype and research was integrated into other Xfinity projects and is currently called Xfinity Stream.

Maybe something more modern would do the trick.
